PBIS

What is PBIS?

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports.  It is a positive behavior reinforcement system our school has chosen to help teach and reward students for their positive choices and behaviors.  Apple Glen became a PBIS school in the fall of 2018.  This is our third full year to implement PBIS.

The application of an evidence-based strategy and system (i.e. PBIS) to assist schools creates a more positive school climate, increases academic performance, decreases disruptive and aggressive behaviors, and helps us further analyze school behavior overall.  PBIS is a process for teaching children appropriate behavior and providing the supports necessary to sustain that behavior.

There are three major components of PBIS.

1. Teach the behavior you want to see in all settings (i.e. cafeteria, classroom, hallway)

2. Interventions when behavior expectations are not met

3. Recognition when behavior expectations are met
